TAFE NSW Trade Classroom

  • TAFE NSW Trade Classroom

In 2017, to address the demand for trade-qualified workers in Australia TAFE NSW embarked on a modernisation program to grow existing campuses utilising modular construction to build additional state-of-the-art learning centres.

ATCO was engaged by RPS Group and CC Pines to design and construct a 500 m2 double-storey permanent modular building at the TAFE NSW Petersham campus.

This turnkey project was completed within 16 weeks, inclusive of manufacture and installation. ATCO designed the façade of the classroom to elevate the external aesthetic, whilst retaining the benefits of a modular manufacturing solution.

The double-storey building (complete with accessibility lift), provided additional space for six classrooms, offices, and a communal kitchen area with associated toilet amenities. The top floor comprised of an open space with bi-fold doors that could be changed to suit the configuration needed.

Extensive planning and communication with traffic control enabled the low loader extendable semi-trailers used to transport modules to gain access to the tight inner-city installation site.

Modular construction offers many benefits in the construction industry. This project highlights the speed at which a building of this size can be mobilised in a fully operational location. The modules where manufactured in our manufacturing facility over a seven week period, once delivered it took an additional seven weeks for the overall installation. The project was completed on time and within budget with minimal disruption to the functioning campus.
