Modular buildings

The construction solution for remote communities

  • Bamaga Motel

This custom-designed two-storey turnkey modular hotel building was designed and manufactured in Brisbane and transported via road and barge to Bamaga on the northern peninsula of Queensland for installation.

The modular building measuring 500 m2 spread over two levels includes 14 double rooms, each with its own en-suite and one PWD room, along with verandas, accessibility ramps, and stairs. The building features colourful exterior cladding with a robust interior for easy cleaning and durability.

Designed and built to Australian Building Standards, the design encompasses wind and fire ratings to suit weather patterns and natural disasters that can occur in the North Queensland tropical region. Modular building methodology provided the perfect solution for limitations due to the remote location, limited access to materials and trades in the local area, and weather conditions that render roads inaccessible during the wet season.

Taking a total of four weeks to manufacture, the completed building was installed during the wet season, over a ten-week period. The scope of works included design coordination between the client and the architect, logistics of installation machinery and materials, delivery of modules from Brisbane to Bamaga, and final commissioning of the building.
