Remote Workforce Housing

Designed for workforce satisfaction

  • APLNG Remote Workforce Housing

Located on Curtis Island, off the coast of Gladstone, Queensland, this 2,600 personnel camp was one of three built in the area on behalf of Bechtel Australia to accommodate the workers required to construct the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant.

The project took place simultaneously with Bechtel's GLNG and QCLNG projects over three years. The repeatable nature of modular construction provided time efficiencies which resulted in the design, manufacture, and installation of 650 double-story accommodation buildings, and more than 120 support buildings and recreation facilities in record time.

During the design phase, a major emphasis was placed on workforce satisfaction which resulted in the inclusion of numerous recreational facilities including a swimming pool, tennis court, beach volleyball court, three gymnasiums, tavern, sports pavilion, and golf & cricket nets.

To complete the remote workforce camp supporting administration buildings were also built including ice shelters, trauma centres, training centres, security huts, and three large office complexes.

ATCO Structures ensured all footings, awnings, and buildings were designed to C3 wind codes, BCA codes, and ODC codes in preparation for tropical cyclones. In addition, all in-ground service reticulation, telecommunications (excluding active equipment), and detailed earthworks were also completed by ATCO Structures.
